1960, Sydney's Kings Cross. Harriet Purcell has left her respectable, suburban home behind and moves into a rooming house owned by Mrs. Delvecchio Schwartz. She is a fortune-teller and the mother of mute 4-year-old Flo. Mrs. Delvecchio Schwartz introduces Harriet to an exciting new life of magic, adventure, passion and men. Harriet enjoys her new life, but her greatest joy is Flo, who is a very special little girl.
